The successful ‘Ventus Prime’ range has always met these requirements and has become Hankook’s best-selling summer tyre range in Europe. The new Ventus Prime 4 is an improved combination of performance, safety, comfort and environmental performance. Since its launch, the new summer tyre profile, together with the SUV variant, is available in a total of 67 sizes from 16 to 20 inches, tread widths from 195 to 255 mm, profile heights from 40 to 65 and speed ratings from H to Y.

From Ventus Prime 3 to Prime 4 – a success story

The new profile builds on the Ventus Prime 3, previously Hankook’s best-selling tyre in Europe (over 20 million units since 2015), which set new standards in wet braking, rolling resistance and dry handling at the time. Over the years, this has been confirmed by a number of international specialist media in independent tyre tests. The Ventus Prime 3 managed to win probably the largest summer tyre test in Europe, organised by Auto Bild magazine with more than 50 tyres from all brands, twice (2016, 2018). Hankook’s premium comfort profile also achieved the best rating in an international tyre test conducted by the ADAC automobile club in cooperation with its European partners in 2018. In the prestigious market of original equipment tyre suppliers, this tyre has been able to convince a number of vehicle manufacturers of its performance. The Ventus Prime 3 was and is now fitted to various models from Audi, Ford, Hyundai, MINI, Opel, Seat, Skoda and VW.

“Our engineers have succeeded in further improving the already outstanding performance of the Ventus Prime 3,” says Sanghoon Lee, President of Hankook Tire Europe. “We can now offer our customers a new generation of products that guarantee even greater safety and comfort. We are therefore confident that with the Ventus Prime 4, our company has developed a successful successor to Hankook’s best-selling tyre in Europe.”

Features of the Ventus Prime 4 at a glance

The ‘High Mileage Compound’ technology used in the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 is crucial to the mileage, which is a good fifth higher than its predecessor. The innovative combination of materials results in greater stiffness of the profile blocks, resulting in lower rolling resistance and less wear. Higher performance polymers ensure a stronger chemical bond with the fillers. Overall, the modified compound matrix has a higher silica content. In addition to significantly lower wear, this also results in even greater control over handling characteristics, especially on wet roads. To further improve performance, Hankook engineers have modified not only the compound, but also the profile shape and contour for a particularly balanced and flat contact patch. On the one hand, this minimises wear, especially on the outer edges of the individual tread blocks, and on the other hand, it significantly improves braking performance, especially on wet roads. Thanks to newly developed polymers, a higher proportion of silica, a new compounding process and the use of natural oils, the tyre also shines with reduced wear, which is reflected in higher mileage.

Klaus Krause, Head of the Hankook Europe Technical Centre in Hannover: “Our aim was to reduce wear – without compromising on other criteria. With the new generation of tyres, the Ventus Prime 4, we have succeeded. We’ve increased tyre life by around 20 percent, while achieving better handling, increased comfort and lower rolling resistance.”

Better handling even on dry roads

Faster response on dry roads was also part of the requirements for Hankook’s developers and became the subject of many test runs at Hankook’s newly built test centre in Idaja, Spain. Whereas the previous rectangular edges of the tread blocks had a tendency to roll inwards under hard lateral acceleration, the Ventus Prime 4 has rounded edges there to prevent this phenomenon. This ensures the best possible contact between the tyre profile and the road surface, even in sporty cornering. In addition, the “Zigzag 3D Trend” technology, first used on Hankook summer tyres, improves dry behaviour by increasing the frictional force of the block in line with its deformation.

Noise reduction according to the soundproof chamber principle

Engineers have improved comfort by eliminating many potential noise sources. Klaus Krause: “We used the same principle that is used to create anechoic chambers – a sound-absorbing wall. The sound reflection on the inner walls of the chamber is significantly minimised by lining it with absorbent material. For Ventus Prime 4, we have provided the edges of the profile blocks with a radial, wedge-shaped 3D structure that works exactly according to this principle and absorbs sound reflections between the blocks. And indeed – in comparative measurements in the Hankook laboratory, the Ventus Prime 4’s noise level was reduced by up to 2.5 dB(A) depending on speed. This corresponds to a reduction in perceived noise by approximately 20 percent. Another factor in the noise reduction is the higher number of profile blocks. While the Ventus Prime 3 has a full circumference of 70 blocks, the Ventus Prime 4 of the same size has a profile divided into 80 blocks. This profile optimisation is also evident in the overall more comfortable rolling of the tyre.

["post-1425","releasearticles","type-releasearticles","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
